His next project at The Adobe Theater is Carson McCullers’ drama, “The Member of the Wedding” (which she adapted from her novella published in 1946), which opens October 24th. Winner of the New York Drama Critics Circle Award in 1950, McCullers’ touching and poignant play centers around Frankie Addams, a twelve-year-old girl caught between childhood innocence and the throes of adolescence. This coming-of-age play also explores the intrinsically enmeshed lives of whites and blacks in the American South, 1945
The Broadway production starred the great Ethel Waters as Berenice Sadie Brown, Julie Harris as Frankie Addams and Brandon De Wilde as Frankie’s young cousin, John Henry West. Mr. Cady’s cast features Angela Littleton, Annie Elliott and Jackson Murietta in these roles, respectively. Others in the cast are Janine O’Neill, Vernon Poitras, Marc Lynch, Michael Weppler, Kelsey Martin, Riley Martin, Sarah Seaton, Mikael Ayele and Jackson Krebbs.
Author McCullers was known as a novelist in the “Southern Gothic” style. She left Georgia in 1934 to study music at Julliard but soon gained recognition for her short stories.
